Since 2021, federal law has required every hospital in the U.S. to publish their prices. It’s called the Hospital Price Transparency Rule, and it was a landmark shift toward giving patients the information they need to make informed decisions.

The problem? The data is buried in massive machine-readable files — spreadsheets with millions of rows, designed for computers, not people. Most patients will never find them, let alone make sense of them.

ClearCost aggregates this pricing data, normalizes it, and makes it searchable in plain English. We’re building the interface that the transparency mandate was meant to enable.

Built on transparency — even about our limits

Hospital price transparency is still maturing. Not all hospitals comply fully, and data formats vary widely across facilities. Some prices may be missing, and others may not yet reflect the latest updates.

We believe in showing you what’s available today rather than waiting for perfection. As hospitals publish better data, ClearCost gets better automatically.

Why some prices may be missing: Hospitals publish pricing files at different intervals and in varying formats. We continuously process new data as it becomes available, so coverage improves over time.
